ARTIST STATEMENT

I often recover or collect what is broken, forgotten, thrown away, excluded, on the sidelines.

Objects appear to me in their essence, they contain a sacred potential for me. In my creative process, I nurture a relationship with them, in their staging a new dimension opens up, an invisible dimension that I am trying to convey.

This is why I highlight what can capture attention by creating contrasts: light versus heavy, dangerous versus safe, precious versus superfluous, balance versus imbalance, with the aim to offer another vision at first sight thus showing that things are not always as they seem and to accommodate other interpretations, to allow new readings.

The objects I use come from all the places I travel and stay in such as Beirut, Geneva and Florence. Some of them have been accompanying me for a long time, others are more recent. I also own a valuable source where I collect my raw material, made up of memories, furniture, objects and antiquities in Lebanon.

My research is as a refuge, it allows me to group and observe these different objects, each one with its own history. An intimate dimension is thus created between them and me, a silent dialogue. I want to share the silence transmitted through each one of these objects' rebirth. The possibility of metamorphosis and transformation that they bring seeks to reflect what each of us possesses in ourselves  as lived and potential. This process in the form of pilgrimage, of sacredness is the search for something that does not have a precise form but that I perceive clearly, even if it's immaterial.

During the transformation undergone by my objects, I have the will to reveal another look at things, renew their meaning and therefore, allow others as well as myself to believe in the ability to rewrite, to change, to abolish all things' definitions, questioning what seems obvious, true and definitive... Perhaps it is precisely the state of non-definitive where the beauty of the world resides.

CB 2017 Up I Mixed media on wood 74 x 14 cm Artwork.jpg

I was born in Lebanon and raised between Geneva and Beirut before completing my education in Florence. After earning a Master’s degree in Psychology, I approached the art world through the restoration of antique wood and by frequenting numerous artisan workshops, which allowed me to acquire and reinterpret techniques that strongly influence my artistic journey. This led to my choice of creating objects and installations that explore the concept of opposites and the unexpected dialogues that emerge when a new function is given to something abandoned. I later deepened this metaphor of transformation through painting as well.

In 2010, I had my first exhibition in Geneva, and since then, I have widely exhibited in Lebanon, Italy, and Switzerland—countries where I continue to focus my artistic research. I have participated in artist residencies in Brazil and Italy, and today, I work between my studios in Beirut and Florence. My works are part of private collections in Lebanon, Switzerland, Dubai, and Paris.
